Play safely

HuntGo takes the game outdoors, into the real world. That makes every Hunt different, but it also means players must always stay aware of their surroundings. The app supports the game, but safety always comes first. Look around you, follow traffic rules, respect others and only play in places that are suitable.

Safety always comes first

A Hunt is never more important than your safety or the safety of others. Stop playing immediately if a situation feels unsafe. Do not keep looking at your phone while walking or cycling, and only cross roads when it is safe to do so. Be aware of traffic, other people, animals, obstacles and unexpected situations around you.

Use a safe playing area

Choose or create a playing area where players can move around safely. Avoid busy roads, railway tracks, construction sites, private property without permission, dangerous terrain and other places that players cannot safely or legally access. A location or marker in HuntGo never automatically means that the place is safe or accessible in the real world. The actual situation at the location always comes first.

Stay alert while playing

GPS and map information may differ from the actual situation. Never rely only on your phone. Look around regularly and stay aware of traffic, roads, water, changes in height, obstacles and other possible risks. If HuntGo shows that a player, checkpoint or other game action is nearby, this does not mean you should walk directly towards that position if doing so would be unsafe.

Keep GPS in mind

HuntGo uses GPS to make parts of the game possible. GPS is not always exact and may temporarily work less accurately because of buildings, trees, your device, weather conditions or other technical factors. Never put yourself in a dangerous situation just to get closer to a GPS marker. If your location is temporarily shown inaccurately, move to a safe place and wait until the position becomes reliable again.

Traffic and travelling

Never use HuntGo in a way that prevents you from paying enough attention to traffic. Stop in a safe place if you want to look at the map, missions or other information in the app for a longer period of time. Do not play while driving a car, scooter or other motor vehicle. When cycling, your attention must also stay on the traffic around you. Only use the app when it is safe to do so.

Weather and conditions

Before starting a Hunt, check whether the weather conditions are suitable for the chosen playing area. Stop or postpone a Hunt during thunderstorms, extreme heat, icy conditions, very poor visibility or other conditions that make outdoor play unsafe. Wear suitable clothing, bring enough to drink and use protection against the sun, cold or rain when needed.

Phone and battery

Make sure your phone has enough battery before you start. HuntGo uses GPS, an internet connection and screen activity, which may use additional battery power. For longer Hunts, a power bank can be useful. Especially for younger players, make sure enough battery remains to make a call or contact someone if needed.

Young players and supervision

HuntGo is intended for players aged 6 and up. For younger players, it is important that parents or supervisors decide in advance where, with whom and under what circumstances a Hunt will be played. Set clear boundaries beforehand, such as the playing area, the end time and places that players are not allowed to enter. Depending on the player’s age, the surroundings and the type of Hunt, direct adult supervision may be needed.

Respect others and your surroundings

HuntGo does not give players any special rights in the real world. Do not enter private property without permission, do not disturb other people and respect buildings, nature, property and local rules. Do not leave rubbish behind or damage anything while playing.

In an emergency

Stop playing immediately if someone needs help or if a dangerous situation occurs. HuntGo is a game and does not replace emergency services, supervision or personal responsibility. In a real emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency services and always follow instructions from the police, emergency responders or other authorised persons.

For the host of a Hunt

The host has an important role in preparing a safe Hunt. Check the playing area beforehand, set clear boundaries and take the age and experience of the participants into account. Before the Hunt starts, explain which areas are off-limits, how long the Hunt will last and what players should do if they get lost, experience technical problems or feel unsafe. A Hunt that cannot be played safely must be adjusted, paused or ended.
